Allergic problems are on the increase and affect about 1 in 4 of the UK population.

The Allergy Service based at Glenfield Hospital offers comprehensive outpatient care for adults with allergic problems. These include:

  • hayfever
  • allergic rhinitis
  • anaphylaxis
  • food allergy
  • insect venom allergy
  • drug allergy
  • urticaria and angioedema
  • asthma
  • latex allergy
  • hypereosinophilia

The allergy service provides five outpatient clinics per week for patient assessment and additional specialist clinics for desensitisation (for allergies to pollen and bee or wasp venom) and drug allergy testing.  Inpatient care is available when necessary.

The team providing the service includes three consultants, a dietician with a special interest in food allergy and a team of specialist asthma and allergy nurses.
