Leicester Childrens' Hospital

The Children's Hospital is based at Leicester Royal Infirmary and provides care for a range of conditions from surgery and cancer to emergencies and broken bones.

In addition to the on site services within the Childrens Hospital, we provide a range of outreach services within Leicestershire and other counties within the Midlands area.

Visit these pages for the information you need to equip you for the hospital journey and to help you deal with the practical side of things when you and your child comes into hospital.

If your doctor thinks cancer may be the reason for your child being unwell, our team of professionals will help you to find out if this is the case or not.

The team draws on expertise from Leicester Children’s Hospital (at Leicester Royal Infirmary) and Nottingham Children’s Hospital (at Queen’s Medical Centre), as well as further afield if required.

Children's orthopaedics

Orthopaedics is the medical specialty that focuses on injuries and diseases of your body's musculoskeletal system. This complex system includes your bones, joints, ligaments, tendons, muscles, and nerves and allows you to move, work, and be active.

Once devoted to the care of children with spine and limb deformities, orthopaedists now care for patients of all ages, from newborns with clubfeet to young athletes requiring arthroscopic surgery to older people with arthritis. Anybody can break a bone.

Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO)

Europe's largest ECMO centre is based at Glenfield Hospital in Leicester. It is one of only four ECMO centres in the UK, where we treat babies and children with serious conditions which prevent their lungs or heart from working normally.

The hospital is registered with ExtraCorporeal Life Support Organisation (ELSO) and is one of the world's most experienced hospitals in using ECMO.
