Leicester Royal Infirmary

Phone: 0300 303 1573
Leicester Royal Infirmary is close to Leicester city centre. The hospital has approximately 890 beds and provides Leicestershire’s only accident and emergency service (our Emergency Department). It is the base for our Childrens' Hospital as well as an Urgent Care Centre (please see below).
Urgent Care Centre
The centre offers an alternative to people who need to see a GP urgently at evenings and weekends, and who can't wait until they can go to their own doctor
You can find the centre close to the emergency department (ED). When facing the ED, the children's emergency department is to your left. The Urgent Care Centre entrance is to the left of the children's ED, down the slope. You will find the entry door in a corner near a flower bed. It is signposted both from the ED and from Infirmary Square.
When should you go to the Urgent Care Centre rather than the ED?
- If you have something minor like a sore throat or earache
- If you couldn’t get an appointment with your own doctor (GP)
- If you have run out of your medicines
- If the problem has been going on for more than a week
- If you have a long term condition and normally see your own doctor (GP)
Opening times 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
