The event, which is the first of its kind in the county, is presented like a market with different stalls offering patients and carers advice and information about aspects such as oral health, eating well, exercise and getting ‘out and about’ after cancer treatment. Laryngectomy patients will have specific stalls to try and address their specific needs.

Macmillan professionals will also be on hand to offer benefits advice as well as information about self-management and pulmonary rehabilitation.

June Walton, Macmillan Head and Neck Clinical Nurse Specialist for Leicester’s Hospitals, is leading the event. She said: “We want to ensure that patients recovering from head and neck cancer have access to all the support they need to enable them to live the best possible quality of life after cancer treatment.

"There are lots of things people can do around diet and fitness to improve their health and wellbeing which they might not be aware of. This event is about providing information and answering any questions patients or carers might have.”

The event will take place on Wednesday 13 September from 2pm – 6pm at Eyres Monsell Working Men’s Club on Little John Road, Leicester, LE2 9BL. There is no need to book a place, people are welcome to drop in anytime between 2pm and 6pm.

For more information you can call June on 07950881863 or Tracy on 07960500043, or email june.walton@uhl-tr.nhs.uk or tracy.robinson@uhl-tr.nhs.uk
