Children at Leicester’s Hospitals had the chance to meet their heroes from Leicester Tigers and Leicester City FC; players from both clubs took time out of their busy fixture lists to visit this Christmas.

Dr Sanjiv Nichani, Consultant Paediatrician at Leicester’s Hospitals, said: “The annual Christmas visit to Leicester Children’s Hospital by our local sports teams is always eagerly awaited by children and their families. We were particularly proud to be able to show the teams our new dedicated Children’s Emergency Department; it brought a lot pleasure to those families who had come into hospital unexpectedly to meet the players.

“Being admitted to hospital at any time is a stressful period for children and their families, but these visits will go a long way to boosting the spirits of the children, their families and our staff.”

The Children’s Wards and Neonatal Wards also received gifts and monetary donations from the Great Central Railway and the Co-Operative Group.

Older patients on Ward 23 were visited by the Lord Mayor of Leicester Rashmikant Joshi and Lady Mayoress Mita Joshi.

Our older patients also all received a present on Christmas Day due to our ‘Making Christmas Special Campaign’, which has seen over 1500 presents donated by schools, companies, staff and the public in Leicester, Leicestershire and further afield! Our army of volunteers handed out the presents to patients on Christmas Day who were not well enough to make it home. Thank you to Jon Ashworth, MP for Leicester South and Tony Donovan, Executive Director Age UK Leicester Shire and Rutland, for their visit and support of this campaign.

Also thank you to Zuffar Haq, and David Gorrod, who donated gifts for our hard-working staff in the Emergency Department and Leicester Hospitals Charity, who arranged for hospital staff to all enjoy a free Christmas Meal.

Karamjit Singh CBE, Chairman of Leicester’s Hospitals, added: “On behalf of our dedicated staff across our hospitals, I would like to wish everyone a very happy new year and offer my sincere thank you to everyone who has offered their support throughout 2017.”
