Time to Change

Mental Health Pledge - Trust Board and others

Time to Change

At Leicester's Hospitals, we want to help break the silence and end the stigma around mental health. One in four of us will be experiencing a mental health problem at any one time. Nine in ten people who have experienced a mental health problem have faced negative treatment from others as a result.

That’s why we have signed the Time to Change Employer Pledge. This is a commitment to changing the way we think and act about mental health at every level of this organisation.

In order to sign the Pledge we have submitted an action plan detailing what we will do, including personal pledges and learning from each other by sharing our experiences.

Time to Change is England’s biggest programme to challenge mental health stigma and discrimination and is run by the charities Mind and Rethink Mental Illness.

Champions

You can support our work with this campaign by signing up to be a Time to Change Champion.

A Champion can make a real difference to our workplace culture and to the lives of colleagues, working with you and across the hospitals to make mental health a normal topic of conversation, dispelling myths and making it easier for people to seek support.

Personal Pledges

Whatever role you undertake, we all have our part to play in breaking down the stigma around mental health.  You can do this by making an individual pledge through downloading this pledge sheet. You could then share this with us on social media.

Social Media

You can get involved in the Time to Change campaign on social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube) by sharing a picture of yourself signing the pledge.

On Twitter please tag the hospital in your post using the handles @Leic_Hospital and @TimetoChange and using the hashtag #TimetoChange.

Case Studies

We are also looking for staff to share their stories experiences about dealing with mental health. E.g. Stress, Depression, Anxiety & Panic Disorders, Bipolar Disorder, Eating Disorders and Schizophrenia.
We would like you to share your experiences with us whether it be personal and professional so that we can help break the silence around mental health.

We plan to share these on the intranet and on social media, depending on what you would be happy with. You can also choose to remain anonymous if you wish.

The ideal length is between 500-800 words, so don’t feel like you have to keep writing forever. The shorter it is, the more likely it will hold the reader’s attention. Should you have any questions regarding what to write or wish to share your experience please contact communications@uhl-tr.nhs.uk or call 0116 258 8715.

Resources
