Our hospital shuttle bus service, the ‘Hospital Hopper’ runs between the three Leicester hospitals every 30 minutes from Monday to Friday. The service links the three hospitals, Beaumont Leys Centre, Hamilton Centre, the Railway station and Leicester’s Park and Ride hub at St Nicholas Place.
The service is ideal for passengers who want to get around Leicester, whether they be a patient or visitor to the hospitals, a commuter requiring the rail station, or just getting out for shopping or leisure in the city. As well as providing a quick and direct link to Hamilton and Beaumont Leys Shopping Centres, the Hopper has convenient stops for the City Centre itself. All customers are welcome on the Hopper whether travelling to Hospital or not.
Customers can buy a single or day ticket on the bus, or get a Hopper Smartcard for more regular travel. UHL staff travel free on production of their ID card and local council concessionary permits are valid on the hopper service. University of Leicester and De Montfort University staff and students need to refer to their own website for the conditions of their concessionary travel scheme.
Catch it at UHL bus stops to travel to and between Glenfield Hospital, the General Hospital and the Royal Infirmary.
The first bus from Hamilton leaves at 06:24am; the first bus from Beaumont Leys shopping centre sets off at 6:30am. From the 3rd June the last bus from each end of the Hopper route will leave at 20:54 (Hamilton) and 21:00 (Beaumont Leys). For full details of times and stops please see the timetables below:
A new fare structure will be introduced on 14th May 2012, see details below.
The nationally recognised concessions are valid on the Hospital Hopper.
The service is free to University Hospitals of Leicester staff on production of their NHS ID badge.
All stops used by the hopper are clearly marked “UHL”. For more information see the Hopper timetable below (PDF):
