Leicester Childrens' Hospital 

The Children's Hospital is based at Leicester Royal Infirmary and provides care for a range of conditions from surgery and cancer to emergencies and broken bones. 

In addition to the on site services within the Childrens Hospital, we provide a range of outreach services within Leicestershire and other counties within the Midlands area.

If your doctor thinks cancer may be the reason for your child being unwell, our team of professionals will help you to find out if this is the case or not.

The team draws on expertise from Leicester Children’s Hospital (at Leicester Royal Infirmary) and Nottingham Children’s Hospital (at Queen’s Medical Centre), as well as further afield if required.

East Midlands Paediatric Metabolic Service

The East Midlands Paediatric Metabolic Service provides care for Children and Young People with a variety of diagnosed and undiagnosed inherited metabolic disorders.  Working in partnership, the Leicester and Nottingham metabolic services have collaborated in order to provide excellent care to children and young people living in the East Midland’s with a metabolic condition

Children's orthopaedics

Orthopaedics is the medical specialty that focuses on injuries and diseases of your body's musculoskeletal system. This complex system includes your bones, joints, ligaments, tendons, muscles, and nerves and allows you to move, work, and be active.

Once devoted to the care of children with spine and limb deformities, orthopaedists now care for patients of all ages, from newborns with clubfeet to young athletes requiring arthroscopic surgery to older people with arthritis. Anybody can break a bone.

Paediatric neuropsychology

The paediatric neuropsychology service specialises in assessing children’s learning and behavioural difficulties associated with a neurological problem.

Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO)

Europe's largest ECMO centre is based at Glenfield Hospital in Leicester. It is one of only four ECMO centres in the UK, where we treat babies and children with serious conditions which prevent their lungs or heart from working normally.

The hospital is registered with ExtraCorporeal Life Support Organisation (ELSO) and is one of the world's most experienced hospitals in using ECMO.

Leicester Children's Allergy Services

The paediatric allergy team provides a service that covers all aspects of  allergic disease for children up to the age of 18 years (new referrals up to 16 years). Our multi-disciplinary team consists of an experienced multi-professional team including doctors, specialist nurses and specialist dietitians. We adopt a holistic approach in the management of allergic disorders and work to support and provide education for patients and families.
