Clinics

You will be able to see a physiotherapist at every clinic appointment. Please ensure you bring your airway clearance device with you to each appointment as this is a good opportunity to check techniques. We will discuss airway clearance techniques, exercise, nebulisers and any musculoskeletal problems at each clinic appointment. At an annual review clinic, older children (approx. 5-6years plus) will do a simple exercise test also.

Community Support

We also offer support at home. This might include supporting families when a child is first diagnosed, seeing your child if they are unwell or need an adjustment to their treatment regime. If your child requires home intravenous antibiotics, the physiotherapy team supports the child with airway clearance program’s and encourage activity/ exercise during the course of treatment. We also provide training for children that need to do their treatments in nurseries/ schools and can teach appropriate staff members to support the children to do this.

On the ward

If your child needs to come into hospital, they will be seen by one of the physiotherapy team daily to assess their chest and carry out their physiotherapy programs, including exercise. They will have access to the physiotherapy gym during their admission with their physiotherapist.
