East Midlands Children’s and Young Persons’ Integrated Cancer Service (EMCYPICS)

The East Midlands Children’s and Young Persons’ Integrated Cancer Service (EMCYPICS) is an integrated service for the investigation of children and young people (0 - 18 years) with suspected cancer and the treatment of those diagnosed with cancer.

Children and young people rarely develop cancer and most cancers in this age group can be successfully treated. If your doctor thinks cancer may be the reason for you/your child being unwell, a team of professionals will guide you through the investigations required to find out if this is the case or not. The EMCYPICS team is based at Nottingham Children's Hospital (at the Queen's Medical Centre) and Leicester Children's Hospital (at Leicester Royal Infirmary) and also works with other experts from further afield if required.

The team shares patients’ care with the Paediatric Oncology Shared Care Units at Northampton General Hospital and United Lincolnshire Hospitals (Lincoln and Boston) when appropriate and works closely with other district general hospitals, and community teams throughout the East Midlands.

All children and young people with cancer/suspected cancer and their families have access to high quality, safe and effective clinical care as well as emotional and practical support that is well coordinated and provided in environments that are helpful to healing.
