Diabetes

Our diabetes care service is provided in joint partnership with GPs (doctors).  Patients are screened by their doctor and referrals made to our specialist diabetes centres. Patients with diabetes are  placed on a diabetes register to ensure that all patients across Leicestershire receive a high level of care.

Our specialist team includes, consultant diabetologists, dieticians, diabetes specialist nurses, podiatrists, psychologists and other members of clinic staff. The team also has very close links with other specialist clinics such as paediatrics, obstetrics and renal services.

A comprehensive service is offered to patients in our dedicated diabetic clinics including retinopathy screening (eye screening to detect changes e.g. blindness due to diabetes).  Out-patient services include a dedicated diabetic foot clinic, a multi-disciplinary team including an orthotist who makes and fits special shoes for diabetes patients with foot ulcers caused by diabetes.
