Hypertension

We have developed an award-winning service that  has been nationally recognised as being a leader in the field of hypertension (high blood pressure).

The weekly hypertension service at Leicester Royal Infirmary is for patients who attend and undergo all necessary tests and investigations during the same visit. Following investigations all issues are discussed with the patients who are then sent a treatment plan as well as a copy letter to their doctor (GP).

Around one in 10 of us have high blood pressure which shortens life expectancy. People with high blood pressure run a higher risk of having a stroke (which damages the brain) or a heart attack.

If left untreated for a long time, high blood pressure can also lead to kidney failure and even damage your sight. It can also cause the heart to become abnormally large and less efficient (left ventricular hypertrophy). This can lead to heart failure, and further increase the risk of having a heart attack.
