PMCT Training for Radiologists

This 3 day course is offered to radiologists (and registrars) who want to learn to interpret PMCT scans.

Led by Professor Bruno Morgan, Professor of Imaging and consultant radiologist with 15 years PMCT experience, the course is intended for radiologists interested in non-suspicious deaths. Trauma and suspicious deaths are discussed but are not the main focus.

A team of experienced PMCT radiologists, from a wide variety of clinical specialities, teach on the course and bring a wealth of knowledge. A pathologist and advanced practice radiographer, both with many years PMCT experience, provide insight into the roles of others in such a service. Together, they provide a series of lectures and practical ‘hands-on’ image interpretation sessions including:

  • Decomposition and normal PMCT findings
  • PMCT coronary angiography and cardiac findings
  • Chest cases
  • Neuro, trauma and unnatural death
  • Abdominal cases, pulmonary-thromboembolism and others

By the end of the course participants will:

  • Be aware of how the English* coronial system works
  • Understand how a medical cause of death is formulated
  • Have an understanding of the techniques involved and the associated challenges
  • Have the ability to interpret PMCT scans
  • Understand the limitations of PMCT
  • Have an understanding of the pathologist’s perspective on PMCT
  • Have an appreciation of how a PMCT service can be run

(*legislation is slightly different in Scotland and Ireland but the image interpretation is the same so everyone is welcome.)
