About Me:
Alison Armstrong was appointed Consultant Upper Limb Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon in Leicester in 1997 following clinical training in Nottingham and Derby. She also obtained a Doctor of Medicine for osteoporosis research from Nottingham. She has a wide experience of shoulder and elbow surgery (open and Arthroscopic) in both Trauma and Elective work. Special interests are: the sternoclavicular joint, the teenage unstable shoulder, managing the complications of trauma and managing acute cuff tears.
Miss Armstrong is the Research Lead for the department encouraging and coordinating research particularly multi-centre studies. She is currently a co-applicant for the UKFROST study on Frozen shoulders and the Site investigator for Fracture Free (osteoporosis study).
Miss Armstrong is a Hon Senior lecturer in Medical Education, an FRCS Orth examiner and a member of the Elbow and Shoulder Society Education committee (2008-2016).
Miss Armstrong was also Chairman of the National Orthopaedic Directors Society (2008-10) and on the Professional Practice Committee of the British Orthopaedic Association (2012-15).
Miss Armstrong was Head of Service for the Leicester Department of orthopaedics 2001-5. As Senior British Elbow and Shoulder Society Fellow 2007 she travelled to CapeTown and the Mayo clinic to see Shoulder and Elbow surgery. She won the BESS CPD award 2014-5 to enable travel to conferences abroad.
