Caring for your baby

Welcome to the Neonal Unit entrance

Having a baby on the neonatal unit can be very stressful. Our unit has state of the art facilities and expert staff to care for your baby.

When you first come to the unit, your baby's nurse will show you around.

Our unit at the Leicester Royal Infirmary has new facilities and houses our Neonatal Intensive Care and 12 Special Care cots.  Our smaller unit at Leicester General Hospital has 12 Special Care cots and most of our babies spend some time in both units, depending on their care needs.

The neonatal unit has family rooms with space for you to relax. There are play facilities for siblings and areas for mothers to express breast milk.

There is some limited parent accommodation, particularly for families who live outside of Leicester. Please ask your nurse for further details and availability.

When you arrive on the unit, you will be given a welcome pack with lots of useful information.
