Outpatient Clinics

ophthalmology - children in ophthalmology

Many of our babies come back to our neonatal clinics after discharge.

Whilst on the unit, you will be allocated a named consultant and all of our team have follow-up clinics.

In addition to this, we offer a specialised developmental follow up appointment at Leicester General Hospital for our highest risk babies:

  1. Premature infants <28 weeks or <1000g birth weight (or with an abnormal cranial ultrasound).
  2. Any infants with moderate or severe encephalopathy.
  3. Following neonatal seizures.
  4. Following neonatal meningitis.
  5. Specific conditions (e.g. chromosome abnormalities, structural brain anomalies or following ECMO).

This detailed assessment is carried out at 2 years of age (corrected for gestation).

We also offer specialist clinics for babies at home in oxygen and for babies with kidney problems detected on antenatal scans.

Your baby's follow up plans will be explained at the time of discharge.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic, we have been offering many of our appointments via telemedicine.
