Over 54,000 operations from all surgical specialities take place at our three hospitals each year.
We cater to all kinds of surgeries, from the simple hernia operation, to the more complex cardiac and robotic surgeries.
Our Trust is a super specialised centre for surgical specialities such as Hepatobiliary (liver), Renal (kidney), Urogynaecology and Paediatric Cardiac surgery. Many patients travel from around the country to have their surgeries at one of our three hospitals.
Each hospital has well equipped theatre complexes which comprise of a reception area, operating theatres and recovery areas. Each operating theatre has its own anaesthetic room where patients can be put to sleep in a gentle and relaxed way.
Leicester Royal Infirmary
There are 22 operating theatres and 15 recovery bays at the Royal.
The Theatres Arrivals Area was refurbished in 2013 to create a welcoming and state-of-the-art area for patients to wait for their operations. The Theatres Recovery Area is now also undergoing a reconfiguration to upgrade the facilities.
Specialities include General Surgery, Paediatric, Vascular, Plastic, Maxillofacial, ENT, Ocular (eye), Orthopaedics and Trauma, Gynaecology and Maternity.
On average 29,000 operations are performed at this site each year.
Leicester General Hospital
There are 17 operating theatres, 6 recovery bays and 4 advanced recovery bays at the General.
Recently the recovery areas have been expanded to include advanced recovery bays where patients who do not need intensive care but who benefit from extended recovery within the theatre complex are cared for.
Specialised urology and gynaecology surgery utilising robots have been taking place at the General with great success.
Specialities include Hepatobiliary, Urogynaecology, Renal, Colorectal, General Surgery, Orthopaedics, Urology, Gynaecology and Maternity.
On average 19,000 operations are performed at this hospital each year.
Glenfield Hospital
There are 9 operating theatres and 8 recovery bays at Glenfield.
Specialities include Cardiac, Thoracic, Paediatric cardiac, Cardiac catheter lab, ECT (mental health), Breast and General surgery.
On average 6,500 operations are performed at this hospital each year.
We have excellent day surgery facilities at each site where the patient comes in on the day of surgery, has the named surgery and gets discharged the same day.
We also have dedicated emergency theatres at all three hospitals for patients who need emergency surgery are operated anytime during the day and night throughout the year.
Our dedicated theatre staff which includes medical, nursing and other ancillary staff are of a high calibre, competent and safety conscious as working in a theatre environment requires a high degree of skill, good communication and a willingness and enthusiasm to excel.
