Summary of services

Our Department of Stroke Medicine is mainly based at Leicester Royal Infirmary.

We provide the following services:

We have close links with allied departments including imaging, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech & language therapy, and vascular surgery.

Where needed, people who need a further period of therapy are offered this at home with the support of the ESDS (Early Supported Discharge Service).  Where home-based therapy is not appropriate or feasible, we transfer patients to one of three community stroke units.

Our team is led by consultants, with support from a multi-disciplinary team, including: ward-based teams of doctors-in-training, nursing staff and therapists.

We aim to provide high quality stroke care in line with the National Stroke Strategy, and contribute to the Sentinel Stroke National Audit Programme (SSNAP).
