Elective Orthopaedics

The Elective Orthopaedic department at the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust run their outpatient activity at the Leicester General Hospital and the Glenfield Hospital, and in the community Alliance sites.

The department runs over three wards at the Leicester General Hospital - wards 14, 16 and 18.

Some clinics and procedures for Elective Orthopaedics also get taken through the Sports and Exercise Medicine department and Alliance.

The department has over forty Consultants who specialise in different aspects of orthopaedic surgery. These include:

  • Hip & Knee
  • Spines
  • Foot & Ankle
  • Shoulder & Elbow
  • Hand & Wrist
  • Sports Injuries
  • Oncology / Sarcoma
  • Paediatric

Trauma

Leicester Royal Infirmary is home to the Trauma service for Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland (LLR).  Our team offers a 24/7, 365 days of the year service. Referrals are also taken from Northamptonshire.

The Trauma service treats all subspeciality conditions and has dedicated Femoral Fragility Fracture and Spinal wards. The Trauma service is supported by dedicated orthogeriatricians who manage the complex medical needs of our fragility fracture patients. The Trauma service has a dedicated suite of theatres staffed with specialist Orthopaedic staff.



Paediatric Orthopaedics

The Paediatric Orthopaedic service cares for patients of all ages with a wide range of conditions, from newborns with clubfeet through to young athletes requiring arthroscopic surgery. Paediatric Orthopadics is based at the LRI on Ward 19 and the Paediatric Day Case ward.
