They help provide the infrastructure that allows high-quality clinical research to take place in the NHS in the region so that patients can benefit from new and better treatments.

The NIHR Applied Research Collaboration (ARC) East Midlands, led by Professor Kamlesh Khunti, brings together a collaboration of local providers and commissioners of NHS services, universities, industry and other relevant organisations. It leads applied health research across the region, translating research findings into improved outcomes for patients.

National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Leicester Biomedical Research Centre (BRC)
The NIHR Leicester BRC is at the frontier of research into illnesses linked to respiratory conditions, cardiovascular disease, Type 2 diabetes, chronic kidney disease and the consequences of inactivity. Its overall purpose is to translate scientific breakthroughs in these areas into diagnostic tests, preventions and life-saving treatments for patients.

NIHR Research Design Service East Midlands
The Research Design Service (RDS) East Midlands provides free design and methodological support to health researchers in the region who are developing research funding applications. The RDS supports research teams to develop and submit high quality applied health and social care grant applications to NIHR and other open, national, peer-reviewed funding programmes. Priority is given to those applying to NIHR and nationally competitive funding streams, but where capacity allows other design and funding enquiries will be supported.

The Midlands and Wales Advanced Therapy Treatment Centre (MW-ATTC) is a large regional network with the necessary commercial and NHS infrastructure required to facilitate the delivery of advanced therapy treatments to patients. The centre includes a wide range of specialists in advanced therapy manufacturing, including academic and commercial partners, logistics companies, specialists in clinical trial delivery and teams focussed on IT solutions and health economics.
