What is a ‘costing template’ and how does it apply to me?

All research must be authorised by the Research and Innovation Finance team before it is approved by the Trust. If your research is funded and sponsored by a commercial company, then the Industry Costing Template must be submitted along with your protocol. The company sponsoring the research should take the lead in completing the Industry Costing Template, but you will also need to contact the Clinical Research Network: East Midlands and the Research and Innovation Finance team for their advice.

What do I do if my study isn’t both sponsored and funded by a commercial company?

Please submit your protocol to the Research and Innovation Finance Team in order that they may confirm that there are adequate funds to cover the cost of the research. The team will also help you to work out the costs of your study and the most appropriate ways to get it funded.

I don’t think that my study is a commercial study, do I still have to complete the costing template?

No. However, all research studies must still be authorised by the Research and Innovation Finance team. Please send a copy of your protocol in order that a finance review can take place at the same time as study approval. Again, the team will help you to work out the costs of your study and the most appropriate ways to get it funded

I have some questions about the costing template, who do I talk to?

If you have any queries about this process, please contact the Research and Innovation Finance team.
