In line with our values, the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust is committed to ensuring that it treats its employees and patients fairly and with respect and that it does not discriminate against individuals or groups on the basis of any of the protected characteristics outlined in the Equality Act 2010.

The Trust has an Equality and Diversity Board which is chaired by the Chief Executive. This group meets every six weeks to review progress with equality and diversity across the organisation.

Reports on equality and diversity are also reported to the Trust Board and the People and Culture Executive.

To support staff and patients the Trust has several things in place to ensure that it operates in a fair and inclusive manner. The trust has in place the following;

  • Equality and Diversity Policy
  • Equality Impact Assessment Policy and Framework
  • Disability Staff Network- Differently-abled Voice (DAV)
  • Black Asian and Minority Ethnic Staff Network (BAME Voice Network)
  • External Equality Advisory Group that acts as a critical friend to the Trust on equality and diversity matters
  • Policy for supporting Transgender Patients
  • Anti-Bullying Stakeholder Group
  • Freedom to Speak Up Guardian
  • Carers Charter
  • A workplace Disability Advisory Service for staff with disabilities and long term health conditions
  • Leicester Works Learning Disability Employment Placement Programme
