Leicester Works Programme

UHL is part of a joint employment programme called Leicester Works.  We work in partnership with , Leicester College, and Leicester City Council and the programme is designed to help people with Learning disabilities develop work related skills, identify the type of career they want and get them into paid employment.

The programme is a year long and in that time eligible students from Leicester College have the opportunity to complete three different work experience placements.  While additional support is provided by Tutors from Leicester College including Job coaching.

At the hospital we have a variety of placements such as:

  • Admin Support roles

  • Maintenance Assistant

  • Portering roles

  • Discharge Lounge Support

  • Medical Records Support

  • Physiotherapy Support

  • Catering Assistants

  • Post Room Assistants

  • Housekeeping Assistant

UHL have been part of the programme for several years now and lots of our students have gone onto gaining paid employment.
