CONTRACT-2 appendicitis trial logo

CONservative TReatment of Appendicitis in Children – a randomised controlled Trial – CONTRACT 2

Who is it for? Children (aged 4-15 years) with a clinical diagnosis of acute uncomplicated appendicitis.

Why? Recently some studies have shown most children with appendicitis can be treated with antibiotics instead of an operation. But no studies in children have compared the advantages and disadvantages of having antibiotic treatment instead of surgery. The purpose of our study is to see if children with acute appendicitis can be treated equally effectively with antibiotics as with an operation.
