Reducing waiting lists

Reducing the number of people on waiting lists helps to reduce inequality. At UHL, we're already making progress in reducing our waiting lists and the East Midlands Planned Care Centre is a key part of our efforts to continue this progress.

The facility provides:

  • Additional capacity of up to 100,000 units of activity per year
  • 2 operating theatres, 14 outpatients, 4 procedure rooms and a Medical day case facility
  • Ring-fenced (protected) capacity during peak demand for services
  • Pre-operative and recovery areas
  • A flexible facility that can be used by different clinical services in the future.

Self check-in and wayfinding

The East Midlands Planned Care Centre will have self check-in and digital wayfinding to improve accessibility for our patients. Self-check-in and digital wayfinding kiosks will improve accessibility:

  • Options for our most spoken languages
  • Options for large fonts for easier reading
  • Personalised directions

Making our services more accessible for our communities

The East Midlands Planned Care Centre has been designed to be physically accessible for all to help remove barriers to healthcare for people with disabilities. The East Midlands Planned Care Centre will provide physically accessible facilities, making it easier for people with disabilities to access care.

  • Technology to support our deaf community
  • All doors are accessible for people using wheelchairs
  • Step-free access, with support from the UHL buggy service to help patients with limited mobility.
