Kindness campaign stories part 1
Laxmi

Laxmi's story

Hello, my name is Laxmi.

I am a receptionist. Patients ask me for directions, and I take telephone enquiries. I aim to make everyone’s hospital experience as nice as possible.

A relative demanded a wheelchair for his father. I directed him to the correct location, but he was very frustrated and his manner was so rude that I was physically shaking.

We are here to help. Kindness is free.

Adam

Adam's story

Hello, my name is Adam.

I am a health care assistant, looking after people with neurological illnesses.

It’s demanding work, helping patients with washing and eating. I love to make a patient smile and brighten their day.

I’ve been hit by patients. I can see they are confused or scared. I try to help them stay calm, but it makes the job much harder.

We are here to help you. Give us the time to look after you properly.

Hazel

Hazel's story

Hello, my name is Hazel.

I am a surgeon. I operate on people who have had injuries to their faces.

Surgery is intense and requires hours of concentration to make sure we get the best possible results.

I get great satisfaction from helping someone who has had difficulties in life get better.

Even though I have more than 20 years' experience and training, I have experienced a patient not wanting me to treat him because of the colour of my skin. Racism hurts. No one deserves it.

I am here to help, trust in me.
