Kindness campaign stories part 2
Rob

Rob's story

I am a security officer. I have worked here for seven years.

I enjoy meeting people from all walks of life. I listen and provide a safe place for patients, visitors and staff.

A patient was discharged but refused to leave the ward. He became disruptive, throwing things and demanding medicine he couldn’t have. We had to physically remove him from the ward. He came right up to my face, swearing and threatening me. He said, “I am going to come back with a gun”.

Being kind helps everyone. I am not the bad guy.

Pamela

Pamela's story

I am a clinic coordinator in maternity. I run clinics for women and birthing people.

I enjoy preparing maternity notes, booking scans and speciality clinics.  Most people who come here are happy because they are having a baby.

One man threw his partner’s notes at me, jumped over the desk, and threatened to hit me. He punched my colleague. This left me terrified for months.

I am just trying to help. We are all here to do a job.

Ravi

Ravi's story

I am a nurse in the Adult Emergency Department. I take care of very unwell patients.

This is a busy place, and the job is demanding, but knowing that I help save lives makes my work fulfilling.

One patient was drunk and demanded to leave. However, he was not able to walk properly. I advised him to wait for a doctor. He insisted on leaving and started shouting abusive words at my colleagues and me. I felt disrespected.

I try my best to go above and beyond. Be kind and respect us.
