Through the peak of COVID-19, visiting restrictions were put in place in hospitals across the country to help protect patients, visitors and staff. Now six months on, after thorough review, some of the restrictions at Leicester’s Hospitals have been rolled back to help support patients and their families.
Whilst the ‘no visitors policy’ remains in place to help prevent the spread of the virus and to enable social distancing on site, the exceptions list has been extended to allow one adult visitor for long stay patients, patients in intensive care and mothers on maternity. Patients at end of life will also be able to see more than one immediate family member. Existing exceptions for carers continue to allow them to support patients who require assistance. The full exception criteria is available on Leicester’s Hospitals website.
Family members wishing to organise visits should contact their loved one’s ward for more information on visiting times and procedures.
Where visitation is not possible because of COVID symptoms, or distance, Leicester’s Hospitals Connecting Families initiative continues to provide daily updates to nominated family members, access to video calls and support through patient liaison teams.
Alongside the visitation changes comes the news that partners will now also be able to attend antenatal scans at Leicester’s Hospitals from today, Tuesday 8 September.
All visitors to our hospitals are asked to wear face coverings and abide by on-site safety guidance including adherence to one-way systems, hand cleaning and correct disposal of PPE..
Leicester’s Hospitals thanks everyone for their support during this unprecedented time.
