Changes to maternity visiting guidance

9 April 2021

Mums-to-be will be allowed one partner to accompany them to antenatal and scan appointments and to the maternity assessment unit (MAU) from Monday 12 April.

To maintain social distancing in these areas, we will be asking partners to queue in marked areas outside the maternity department and wait to be called into the appointment. This is for one partner only and no children should attend. In the MAU pregnant women will be triaged on their own and their partner will be to join them during their clinical assessment.

Everybody attending should wear a face covering unless they have a medical exemption and for anyone without one, surgical face masks will be available at the entrance to the building.

As an additional safety measure, we are also asking pregnant women and their partners to take part in the government’s lateral flow test programme and report results twice a week before appointments. Lateral flow tests can be ordered by members of the public here: https://www.gov.uk/order-coronavirus-rapid-lateral-flow-tests

For further advice and support please speak to your midwife.

Visiting restrictions for other areas of the hospitals remain unchanged at this time but are being kept under close review.
