From 7am on Wednesday 17 August, all three lanes on part of Infirmary Road, which connects Aylestone Road and Oxford Street, will be closed due to a sinkhole which has formed in the road. A diversion has been put in place by Leicester City Council.
All access points to the hospital site are unaffected including the staff multi-storey car park, Emergency Department, Children's ED as well as access to Jarrom Street via Infirmary Square. However, depending on your route, you may be diverted when leaving the hospital site.
The diversion will take drivers onto the inner ring road via Welford Road and Tigers Way. As traffic follows the diversion this may cause delays and congestion around the LRI as well as other parts of the city centre. The road closure is expected to last until at least midday on Friday 19 August. Signs warning drivers of the closure are already in place.
Bus routes may also be impacted by the road closure and diversion. Please check with the service operator for more details.
The Park and Ride service from Enderby (203) is affected and will only be stopping at St Nicholas' circle (in both directions).
