Black History Month: Ivan's story

Associate Non-Executive Director, Ivan Browne, shares his story this #BHM24. Shaped by both the cultural heritage of his Caribbean roots and the vibrant, multi-diverse community of Leicester where he has lived all his life, Ivan has learnt to embrace both cultures growing up.

His parents – who are the backbone of his inspiration – embarked on a journey to the UK with only five pounds in their pockets. Ivan’s father, a hardworking builder, and his mother, who rose to the position of senior sister in coronary care at the Leicester Royal Infirmary, demonstrated resilience and determination.

For Ivan, Black History Month holds special significance – it is a time of reflection and a moment to pause and honour the contributions the Black community has made on society today.
