Celebrating South Asian Heritage Month 2024: 'Free to Be Me'

University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust (UHL) is proud to celebrate South Asian Heritage Month, recognising the diversity and contributions of our colleagues. From 18 July to 17 August, we honour the rich cultures, histories, and contributions of South Asian communities in the UK.

This year's theme, "Free to Be Me," encourages us to embrace and express our unique identities. Countries taking part include Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and the Maldives.

Get involved

At UHL we recognise, include, and support colleagues from a range of backgrounds. We are committed to creating an inclusive environment where everyone feels respected and valued. Highlighting the stories of our South Asian colleagues, we celebrate their resilience and strength, while amplifying their voices.

We are hosting events across our hospitals during the month:

  • Leicester Glenfield Hospital: 30 July, 12pm – 2pm (main restaurant)

  • General Hospital: 31 July, 12pm – 2pm (main restaurant)

  • Leicester Royal Infirmary: 1 August, 12pm – 2pm (main restaurant)

Enjoy cultural festivities, get your name written in another language, and take part in raffles to win some prizes. Let’s embrace "Free to Be Me" with open hearts and minds, building a more inclusive and understanding organisation.
