The water supply at Leicester General Hospital (LGH) was temporarily unavailable this morning (27 July). It was shut off around 7am as a precaution following the discovery of a leak in one of the main pipes on site. Water was restored to the site at around 10.30am. Work to repair the leak is underway and patients, visitors and colleagues may notice continued activity on site while the leak is fixed.
Patient safety is our top priority and we have long standing measures in place to manage situations such as this. Bottled water was supplied to all wards and contingencies put in place to maintain services wherever possible. Unfortunately, we had to take the difficult decision to reschedule a number of appointments due to take place at LGH this morning and we apologise to anyone affected by this.
Patients with appointments at LGH this afternoon should continue to attend unless contacted and advised otherwise.
We would like to thank all patients and colleagues at the LGH for their patience and co-operation while the situation was resolved.
