Glenfield Hospital was built as a replacement for the old Groby Road Hospital which was located about 500 metres away at Heathley Park, which is now a housing estate. Along with Leicester Royal Infirmary and Leicester General Hospital, Glenfield is part of the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust.

The hospital has approximately 416 beds and provides a range of services for patients, including nationally recognised medical care for heart disease, lung cancer and breast care. It has also become an important centre for research through the Leicester Cardiovascular Biomedical Research Unit which aims to improve the diagnosis, prognosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases. The unit provides state-of-the-art facilities, equipment and staff to assist researchers in their complex projects.

Organised by Sue Havinden, night duty manager for Glenfield Hospital, the party will take place on Friday 3 October 2014, from 7.30pm at Nottingham Oddfellows club, Humberstone Gate, Leicester.

A disco and live music will entertain the guests throughout the evening. There will also be an optional eighties themed fancy dress, with the party goers invited dress up as their favourite musician, movie star, television or cartoon character from the decade. A buffet will also be served.

Sue explains: “As I have been here 30 years and have seen a lot of the staff get promoted, I’m hoping that this party will give us the chance to reminisce and enjoy an evening together to celebrate this landmark.”

Tickets are available to purchase at £10 each from Sue Havinden on 0116 258 2652, or Jacqueline Potter or Elizabeth Street on 0116 258 3504. There are a limited number of tickets still available, so hurry to avoid disappointment.
