Kate Hodgson, Clinical Director, Cancer, Haematology, Urology, Gastro and General Surgery

Kate Hodgson

Kate Hodgson is a haematologist, specialising in leukaemia and cellular therapy. She has worked as a consultant at UHL since 2011, after training in the North East. She has been the clinical director of the cancer, haematology, urology, gastroenterology and GI surgery (CHUGGS) clinical management group since April 2023.

Kate says: “As a haematologist, I am proudest of the team we have developed to deliver ambulatory care to patients who have traditionally had very long hospital stays. It is important to me that we have changed the story we tell about ourselves, to be a service that is not afraid to innovate, to work together with partners to amplify our voice and built on our reputation for medical education to make Leicester a place for ambitious colleagues to develop their skills.

“We have worked across haematology, oncology and gastroenterology to open the Medical Day Care Unit at the East Midlands Planned Care Centre, with innovations such as the electronic pre-prescription of medication and blood products.”
