Dear Colleague
First of all, welcome to UHL, we are looking forward to you joining us and working within our Trust.
UHL values high quality care and patient safety. Therefore, we have worked hard to enhance your induction into the Trust and have included an online e-Induction covering relevant induction issues, most of your mandatory training and formal assessment of your learning. Details of how to access this system and complete the training are below.
HELM
As an employee of UHL you are expected to complete your Statutory & Mandatory Training (SMT) as soon as possible and within your first month of employment with us if you have not already completed it through the e-Induction programme. Each eLearning programme takes approximately 30 minutes to complete.
Accessing HELM
You need this be able to check your compliance and complete your training on HELM, to do this please follow these instructions. There are two options:
1) If you are new to Leicester, then Log into HELM: https://uhlhelm.com. If you are unsure which email address has been used to register you for the system, please contact your JDA for this information.
2) If you have been working in Leicester for some time OR you have been a Medical Student at the University of Leicester Medical School, then you will already have an account on HELM.
Your HELM Dashboard:
If you see a Green Box then it means you have completed this training, it’s in date and there is no need to do anything in relation to this course. Keep a track of when this may expire
If you see a Red Box then it means that you must urgently complete this training, once completed it will become green.
Prior to starting at UHL—Mandatory
Please make sure that you have completed all of the training for subjects shown on your required training page. You will know that this has been done as all the boxes will be green
In addition to these subjects, please go the ‘course catalogue’ on HELM and search for, and complete, the eLearning modules entitled:
Resuscitation**; If you have completed any nationally recognised courses such as ALS / ILS, etc., then please email a copy of the certificate and your details to tina.craig@uhl-tr.nhs.uk . However, it is recommended that you arrange a drop in session through the Clinical Skills Unit to familiarise yourselves with UHL resuscitation equipment such as Defibrillators. This can also be arranged through Tina.
Prior to starting at UHL—Optional
In addition to the boxes that you can see on your required training page and those mentioned above, you may wish to complete the following modules prior to starting at the Trust, by finding them in the course catalogue on HELM. These will need to be done on appointment if they are not completed prior to starting.

- Conflict Resolution
- Equality & Diversity
- Health & Safety
- Information Governance
- Moving & Handling
- PREVENT
- Safeguarding Children
- Safeguarding Adults
- Resuscitation** (see above)
We will check its validity (NHS CSTF) and expiry periods to see if we can add this training directly to your HELM account. We would need you to send us copies of your in date certificates and these will then be forwarded to your Junior Doctor Administrator for processing. Please email them to HELMGeneralQueries@uhl-tr.nhs.uk please start the subject field with the words ‘NEW DOCTOR—Training Transfer.’
Visit our Stand at Your Corporate Induction
During your Corporate Induction please make sure you visit the ‘Statutory & Mandatory Training Stand’. Our Core Training Team will check your training, make sure your account is correct and support you with any queries you may have.
