What does membership involve?

Many of our members have joined simply to keep up to date and informed about life in Leicester’s Hospitals. They do this by receiving our quarterly 'Together' magazine and through our e Bulletins.

However, we do offer a number of opportunities to become more involved with the Trust. Our members are invited to special events, such as our annual public meeting, where they get the chance to meet our staff and have their say in how we work. Members are also invited to our monthly Marvellous Medicine health talks and to take part in surveys and focus groups that help us to make sure we get our services right for the people that use them.

Some members have joined because they have a specific interest in one of our services or in an aspect of patient experience, such as improving disability access or how we provide food to our patients and relatives. In such cases we are able to link these members with relevant staff and departments in the Trust.

Put simply, as a member, you may get involved as little or as much as you wish. We recognise that these are your hospitals and through our membership we hope to provide services that are right for you, your families and communities.

Who can become a public member?

Anyone who is aged 16 years or older and lives within Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland can become a public member of the Trust.

What role do members have?

Members have the option of being involved in specific issues in which they have particular interests.

  • They will be consulted about our future plans for services.
  • They will receive regular communications for us about our activities.

Will being a member take up a lot of time?

No, not necessarily.  Members will receive information but will not have to attend meetings if they don’t want to.  If they want to offer more time, they could get involved in focus groups and workshops on specific issues.

Is there a charge for becoming a member?

No, it’s free to join as a member.  Members do not receive extra benefits in terms of any care they may receive in Leicester’s Hospitals.
