Free, fast and reliable Wi-Fi is now live at our three sites at UHL – the Leicester Royal Infirmary, Glenfield Hospital and Leicester General Hospital.
The enhanced service will make it much easier to access the internet, make calls and send and receive emails. For colleagues, it will be easier to access medical records and information on the go, saving time and effort and helping deliver more responsive care to patients.
Staff, patients and visitors can easily connect to the network when arriving on site by searching for “NHS Wi-Fi” on their mobile devices, after which, your mobile device will automatically connect.
The existing ‘NHS Premium’ Wi-Fi will continue to be available, but will be phased out and subscribers to this service are advised not to buy further access time, as they will be able to connect to the new enhanced “NHS Wi-Fi” going forward.
Andrew Carruthers Chief Information Officer at University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust, said. “We know from talking to our patients and staff just how important access to Wi-Fi and the internet is for them.
“People can often be in hospital for long periods as inpatients or through receiving treatments such as chemotherapy, and getting online passes the time and helps patients stay connected.
"For our staff, fast and reliable Wi-Fi helps them to provide better care. A clinician can access patient records wherever they are, including from by the bedside, review emails and make calls, saving time and effort and helping you deliver more responsive care to patients.”
